[AUDITORY] PhD research positions in auditory neuroscience

We seek highly motivated students to conduct research in auditory neuroscience at Ohio University in the laboratory of Dr. Mitchell Day.  PhD positions are available to start in August 2016. Students enter into the Biological Sciences program – Integrative Physiology & Neuroscience track.

The lab currently records from single neurons using chronically-implanted multi-tetrode drives in awake animals to investigate the neural coding of binaural hearing. Students comfortable with computational analyses (computer programming for data analysis, computational modeling) are encouraged to apply. Ongoing research in the lab includes:

- The effect of hearing loss on neural encoding of sound source location

- Animal psychophysics

- Neural coding of sound source location in complex auditory environments

- Glimpsing models of multi-source localization

PhD students are offered a stipend and tuition waiver for approximately 5 years through teaching assistantships. More details about the Biological Sciences program can be found at: http://www.ohio.edu/biosci/grad.html. Applications are due by January 8th, 2016.

Ohio University is located in Athens, Ohio—in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and great for outdoors enthusiasts.
