Call for papers
Audio Engineering Society 42nd Conference on Semantic Audio
Ilmenau, Germany, July 22-24, 2011
Cochairs: Karlheinz Brandenburg and Mark Sandler, Email:

Semantic Audio refers to the research and development targeted toward
content-based handling of digital audio recordings. The rapid evolution of
digital audio technologies, audio compression, and streaming has
significantly changed the way digital audio is created, processed, and
consumed today. New audio content can be produced at a very low cost. Thus
the sheer amount of available audio data grows more and more each day.
Content-based management of audio recordings is essential to enable
efficient use of these data. Aside from audio retrieval and recommendation
techniques, the semantics of audio signals are also becoming more
important in object-oriented audio coding, editing, and processing. Recent
product releases demonstrate this, but many more innovative
functionalities are becoming available.
This conference will give a broad overview of the state of the art and
address many of the new scientific disciplines involved in this
still-emerging field. Our purpose is to continue fostering this line of
interdisciplinary research. This is reflected by the wide variety of
invited speakers presenting at the conference. Talks will be given by
Karlheinz Brandenburg, Dan Barry, Masataka Goto, Meinard Mueller, Christof
Faller, Juergen Herre, Jay LeBoeuf, Matija Marolt, Markus Cremer, Bjoern
Schuller, and Sebastian Stober. For an up-to-date list of the invited
talks, please refer to the conference website at www.aes.org/events/42/.
Paper proposals should consist of title, abstract (60 to 120 words), and
précis (500 to 750 words) to be submitted by February 11, 2011 at
www.aes.org/42nd_authors, which you can visit for more information and
complete instructions anytime after November 9, 2010. We welcome
contributions in all relevant areas, including, but not limited to the
topics listed below. The précis should describe the work performed,
methods employed, conclusion(s), and significance of the paper. Titles and
abstracts should follow the guidelines found at
https://secure.aes.org/authors/guidelines/. Acceptance of papers will be
determined by the 42th Conference paper committee based on an assessment
of the abstract and the précis. Accepted authors will be notified by March
15, 2011. Complete manuscripts of a maximum of 10 pages (3000 words) must
be submitted by April 15, 2011.
