Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the next international application round for the Master’s Degree Programme in Music and Science at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland).

The Master's Degree Programme in Music and Science is aimed at students interested in understanding the various functions of music in contemporary life by examining music through a cognitive, psychological and societal lens. The programme is multidisciplinary, and suitable for individuals from various backgrounds including musicology, music education, computer science, music therapy, and psychology/cognitive science. Study topics include: Music Psychology, Music Cognition, Embodiment in Music, Therapeutic Uses of Music, Music & Creativity, and Computational Music Analysis.

The degree programme is a two-year course run by some of the world’s leading researchers in music research, and is closely affiliated to two flagship research projects hosted by the Department of Music, Arts & Culture Studies:

Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body and Brain (Research Council of Finland)
MUSICONNECT: Music as youth empowerment: creating connection to self and others (European Research Council)

The application round will be open in January 7-21, 2026
