[AUDITORY] Call for Editor-in-Chief (Musicae Scientiae)

Dear All,

Under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Jane Ginsborg, and in collaboration with SAGE Publications, the impact of the ESCOM journal Musicae Scientiae has continued to increase over the past five years. Jane Ginsborg has announced her intention to retire from this position and the ESCOM Executive Council is now looking for a successor and a new Deputy Editor.

Suitably qualified colleagues holding a senior position at a European university are asked to consider applying for one or both of these positions. The successful candidates will be chosen by the Council and confirmed by the General Assembly in July 2024. The Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor must be members of ESCOM but can join after they have been appointed. Members of the Council are welcome to apply. These are honorary positions with no financial remuneration. We also consider shared roles (e.g., to co-editors in chief working together).

The Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor will process about 200 submissions per year, between them, and with the support of the Associate and Consulting Editors. They will take advantage of the excellent automatic manuscript-handling system provided by SAGE, enjoy excellent international visibility, and have the opportunity to demonstrate academic leadership in the field. They will also contribute to the future development of the journal by promoting topics for Special Issues (one per year). The duration of the positions is initially for three years (2025-2027) with the possibility of an extension (if approved by the ESCOM Executive Council) for three or (at maximum) six further years.

Applications should be submitted to the General Secretary of ESCOM (nchansen@xxxxxxxxxx) by 1 March 2024 on two pages of A4 as a pdf attachment.

The first page should be a cover letter with three paragraphs as follows:

  • Motivation: Why the candidate is interested in this position (Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor or both).
  • Qualifications and experience: Evidence of specific experience and skills (e.g., reputation as an action editor for a relevant journal).
  • Vision: How the candidate might build on previous successes of the journal but also move in new directions.

The second page should list the candidate's best or most relevant publications.

Best regards,

Niels Chr. Hansen

General Secretary
