The academic position Areas of responsibility Additionally, the professor must teach and mentor postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduate students at the Faculty of Health Sciences. It is expected that the professor maintains and develop national and international
contacts to build research relationships and collaboration for further grant applications. Participation in assessment work of scientifical staff at the university is a part of the position. Moreover, profiling this area of auditory research in the public
eye will be an important task. Research activity, network, and collaboration Employers The Research Unit of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology at the Department of Clinical Research is divided into three main sections dealing with research concerning Surgically Related ENT, Medical Audiology, and Auditory Science.
It has today 49 employees: 2 clinical professors, a research coordinator, 11 associate professors, 8 postdocs, 10 PhD students, five research nurses and 2 research secretaries. Most of the positions are combinations of clinical functions (major part), teaching
and research. The research unit teaches on three study programmes: Medicine, Audiology and Speech and Language Pathology. Around 1,000 lessons and 200 hours of supervision are delivered per year. It produces approximately 40 international
peer-reviewed publications per year. The funding for 2020 was 14 million Danish Kroner, of which more than 90% were external contributions, primarily established by the audiological sections. Professor Christian Godballe, MD, PhD, heads the unit. The Auditory Science Section conducts basic and applied research aimed at understanding hearing-related problems and developing solutions for their rehabilitation. It currently consists of two associate professors,
one assistant professor, one teaching assistant professor, four postdocs, four PhD students, a research master student, and a research assistant. The group currently works on projects related to individualized hearing-aid processing, new methods for hearing-aid
fitting, EEG-based measures of speech perception, hearing deficits in school-age children, and real-world listening outcome with hearing loss. Using state-of-the-art equipment for diagnostic and hearing-aid research, it performs studies in and outside of the
lab to explore new ideas and to translate them into applicable solutions and knowledge for future audiological practice. The Department of Clinical Research comprises
>45 research units affiliated with clinical departments at Odense University Hospital and Mental Health Services in the Region of Southern Denmark. (For more information about the department’s research, please see
