[AUDITORY] Participants for MA projects needed.

[apologies for cross posting]

Dear all,

The MA students at the York Music Psychology Group (YMPG) are currently collecting data for their theses and I would like to invite you to participate in one or more of their online research studies. Their projects are really interesting and I hope you have a few minutes to spare.

I understand that it's highly unlikely that you have the time or motivation to participate in all of them, but if you already respond to the one you find most interesting, that would help our students a lot.

Pilotstudy: Ratings of expressed emotion in film clips and music

This is a pilot study to test whether the materials used for my main experiment express the intended emotions. If you can spare 5-10 minutes to do it that would be brilliant. This pilot study consists of two parts:
In the first part you will see a short film clip (1min 12s) WITHOUT SOUND. Your task will be to rate the emotion expressed in the film clip based on nine separate emotion scales.
In the second part you will listen to five short music excerpts (ca. 1min). Your task will be to rate the emotion expressed in the music based on nine separate emotion scales.

An exploratory analysis of nostalgic music listening during the COVID-19 pandemic

I am investigating nostalgic music listening habits and wellbeing during the current pandemic, focusing on those living in the UK. Please note that this survey will not be relevant to you if you haven't lived in the UK for the majority of the time between the 23rd March and 23rd June. Otherwise, all ages, experiences, and nationalities are welcome and encouraged!

Music listening in response to the COVID-19 crisis

I'm conducting a survey for my Masters thesis into how individuals have been using music in response to lockdown measures put in place due to the COVID-19 crisis. If you are able to spare the time, the survey takes between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and I would be grateful for your responses!

What music moves you?

For my MA thesis I’m looking at structural features underlying music people find emotionally moving.
I’m asking people to identify specific moments in music, e.g. a turn of phrase or climactic moment, not a whole piece or movement, and to describe exactly how that moment makes them feel. It doesn’t matter what type of music or emotion, or the reason you feel it, I’m just interested in individual responses.
Ideally, have a think about the music before you log on, as you’ll need to be able to describe in detail whereabouts your moving moment occurs (so I can find it later and listen to it) and how it makes you feel. I’m looking for moments of a few seconds, rather than a whole piece, so please be as specific as you can. If you wish you can add up to 3 moments, and they could all be from the same piece, or completely different ones. Any piece, any musical style, whatever moves you!
It’ll take you about 5-10 minutes per musical example, depending on how much detail you want to give.
