A postdoctoral position is available in the Deaf X Lab (http://www.deafxlab.com/)
at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Based in Rochester NY, the successful applicant will work under the direction of Dr. Matt Dye at RIT/NTID and Dr. Anu Sharma at the University of Colorado at Boulder (http://www.colorado.edu/eeglab/). The successful
applicant will be involved
in research on executive function, cognition, language, cortical maturation and re-organization for an NIH grant examining the
effects of sign language exposure and cochlear implantation on neurocognitive plasticity in young deaf adults. The successful candidate will be responsible
for subject recruitment, data collection, data analysis and will collaborate on the dissemination of findings in peer-reviewed journal articles
and at scholarly meetings. Duties include: collection of EEG data and administration of language/cognition tests, and
collaboration with colleagues at NTID to collect audiological data and standardized measures of spoken and signed language. The position will require some travel, most notably to visit collaborators at the University of Colorado at Boulder for training in
acquisition of cortical auditory and visual evoked potentials.
- Applicants must have a PhD (or be ABD with an expected completion date before June 30, 2018) in Linguistics,
Psychology, Neuroscience, Speech, Language, Hearing Science or a related field.
- Proficiency in a sign language is required (with ASL preferred), coupled
with an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of DHH individuals.
- Should have 2 years' experience collecting
psychophysiological and/or behavioral data from human research subjects (preferably deaf or hard-of-hearing adults).
