Dear list, One PhD position (75%, 3 years) is available at the Acoustics Research Institute (ARI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Austria. The ARI is an interdisciplinary research institution offering the unique possibility to conduct ground-breaking research in cooperation with scientists from different disciplines. The position is available as part of the project "LocaPhoto" funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). LocaPhoto is a multidisciplinary project focused on the development of a method to numerically calculate perceptually valid HRTFs based on the visually retrieved geometry of a listener. At ARI, the PhD candidate will be incorporated in the Physical and Computational Acoustics group and work closely with the Psychoacoustics and Experimental Audiology group. Within LocaPhoto, the candidate will deal with the optimization of numerical algorithms and models for acoustics with the particular application in acoustic modeling of the head-related transfer functions. The salary will be EUR 27.066,20 per year (w/o taxes), according to the personal cost rates of the FWF (75% = 30 hours/week). The candidate is encouraged to participate in the Phd program of the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics, KUG, Graz. The position is aimed to start at the beginning of April 2012 and the place of work is Vienna.
