We are sorry to report that Gaetan Gilbert passed away from cancer on
the 19th of October. He was 33 years old. Gaetan was trained as an
engineer at Compiegne University in France, then as a
psychoacoustician during his PhD in Lyon, France. He completed his
training in psychoacoustics and audiology during his postdoctoral
research periods at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in Glasgow
and at the Ecole normale supérieure in Paris. He was recruited as an
assistant lecturer of audiology in Montpellier in 2008. Gaetan Gilbert
dedicated his last years to auditory research, and contributed to our
understanding of speech perception for normal-hearing and
hearing-impaired people. Gaetan Gilbert was a great collaborator and
friend. He was genuinely motivated to contribute to hearing science
and audiology. He will be greatly missed.
