Ira J. Hirsh, Ph.D., who did pioneering research in human hearing,
auditory perception, communication, speech, language and communication
disorders, died Jan. 12, 2010, of cardiopulmonary failure at Hillcrest
Convalescent Center in Durham, N.C. He was 87.
