meanings arose in the middle ages (including a weight(?), a helmet or
skull cap, a heraldic crest, etc.).

In the picture, Pythagoras is shown experimenting with bells,
water-glasses, stretched cords, and various sized pipes; his Hebrew
counterpart, Jubal, uses weighted hammers on an anvil.

there may be a relation between these two "weight" and "bells"
