Postdoctoral position opening
Postdoctoral Opportunity in Basic and Clinical Psychoacoustics
The Experimental Audiology Research Laboratory of the V. A. Medical Center in
Martinez, California is currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow for a
two-year
appointment funded through the V. A. Associate Investigator Program. To
qualify, applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology or
speech and hearing science between October 1, 1995 and April 1, 1999, must
have a publication record, and must have U.S. citizenship. Experience in
computer-based psychoacoustic research is required. Background in signal
processing, sound localization, and computer programming (mostly
higher-level,
such as Matlab, UNIX shell scripting, etc.) as well as basic understanding of
networked PC hardware are highly desired.
Studies in our laboratory focus on the psychophysics of auditory scene
analysis, spatial hearing, and the processing of complex auditory information
in normal-hearing, hearing-impaired, and elderly listeners, as well as in
populations with specific central nervous system lesions. The incumbent is
expected to do work on ongoing projects but will be also given the
opportunity
to work on research topics of his/her own choosing, to the extent that they
are
consistent with the general aim of the funded programs.
