While possibly a tangent, consider looking up works by Richard Ivry, now
at U.C. Berkeley. He has published a number of articles which strongly
suggest that the cerebellum is involved in timing -- of of duration
perception and production. Many of his stimuli have been auditory, though
the mechanism may be more general.
I'm curious about other references, so please summarize....
