Dear community,

We are pleased to announce the release of The Extended SONICOM HRTF dataset, a significant update to the original version first released in 2023. This new release is designed to support researchers working on headphone-based spatial audio, HRTF synthesis, and machine learning for personalised spatial audio.

The dataset now includes:

Over 320 acoustically measured HRTFs, making it one of the largest publicly available collections to date
200 synthetic HRTFs generated using Mesh2HRTF, based on high-resolution, pre-processed 3D head and ear scans
Optimised 3D mesh files in multiple formats to enable rapid and iterative HRTF synthesis and a better link between morphology and acoustic properties
Demographic metadata (age, sex, ethnicity) for a subset of participants to aid in understanding dataset representation
A new Spatial Audio Metrics (SAM) Toolbox, a Python package under continual development to provide easy analysis and visualisation of HRTFs
