Dear list, The Hearing Aid and Aging Research Laboratory (HAAR) at the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the University of Iowa, is excited to announce a fully-funded PhD position
focused on hearing aids and momentary ecological assessment (EMA), commencing in Fall 2024. PhD Thesis Project: The EMA methodology involves collecting real-time data from individuals in their natural environments,
often utilizing electronic devices like smartphones or wearable sensors. An innovative extension of this approach, known as “Dyadic EMA,” simultaneously gathers data from both members of a dyad, such as hearing aid users and their significant others (SOs).
Given the pivotal role of SOs in audiological rehabilitation, Dyadic EMA holds great potential in enhancing the success of hearing aids. This PhD project encompasses a series of studies aimed at assessing the feasibility of implementing Dyadic EMA with older
hearing aid users and their SOs, investigating if Dyadic EMA effectively captures the benefits of hearing aids and features, and exploring its potential to improve the hearing aid fitting process and facilitate hearing aid overall success. We are seeking a candidate with a solid foundation in audiology and expertise in hearing aid technology. A passion for interdisciplinary work, along with proficiency in handling technically
complex setups, is highly valued. Clinical experience in hearing aid fitting is highly desirable. This PhD position is jointly funded by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, University of Iowa, and WSAudiology. The project will be supervised
by Yu-Hsiang Wu, MD, PhD. To apply, visit:
