[AUDITORY] Postdoctoral Position, University of Cambridge, Spiral Ganglion Cell Culture

Please see: http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/28067/

Research Associate (Fixed Term)

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to be part of our interdisciplinary laboratory in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge. We are particularly interested in applicants with a PhD in neurosciences with experience in culture, electrophysiology and characterization of neurones.

We are working with auditory neurones and cochlear hair cells, so experience with these cell groups would be an additional asset. Cell culture, and robust molecular biology skills (PCR, Western Blot etc) are expected. Electrophysiology experience with patch clamp and/or calcium imaging would be an asset

We plan to grow auditory neurones and cells on microelectrode arrays and optimise and the arrays to measure the electrical activity of the cells in response to electrical and other kinds of stimulation. We are also interested in "seeding" them into 3D printed models of the cochlea, to understand how electrical stimulation from cochlear implants affects neural firing.

Our research group works primarily with cochlear implant technologies, and auditory regeneration. The lab PI is a clinician-scientist surgeon, and the lab is very interdisciplinary with molecular biologists, electrical engineers, physicists, mechanical engineers, and clinical researchers. We collaborate with engineering departments, and with the clinicians in hearing disorders at Cambridge University Hospitals Trust.

A candidate experienced with this kind of neuronal culture and characterisation would help us move further into growing a "cochlea on a chip" model to test and develop new auditory technologies.
