[AUDITORY] POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS at Boys Town National Research Hospital

Full-time postdoctoral research positions are currently available at Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH) in the area of human communication and its disorders.  Our program includes a stimulating mix of highly qualified scientists who serve as potential postdoctoral mentors, a staff of research-oriented clinicians, and state-of-the-art laboratories. Postdoctoral trainees also benefit from strong core support in providing services related to recruiting and testing human subjects as well for technology development needed in research.  These postdoctoral trainee positions are primarily funded by a T32 institutional training grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

Opportunities for collaborative research involving several laboratory groups are encouraged, as are interactions with other postdoctoral fellows at BTNRH.  Fellows create and refine a training plan with their mentor(s) according to their research directions, skills they wish to further develop, and career goals. An institution-wide Research Training Committee provides input on the training plan and comments on trainees’ progress toward reaching their goals. Postdoctoral fellows are selected from individuals holding a Ph.D., M.D. or D.Sc. in areas related to the ongoing research programs at BTNRH.  Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents to qualify for T32 funding, but other sources of support exist for applicants who are not T32-eligible.  Candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Mentors included in the T32 training program range span a wide range of research expertise in communication disorders. Information about the T32 training program and full list of potential mentors may be found here: https://www.boystownhospital.org/research/careers-training/postdoctoral. For the 2020-2021 award period, we are specifically seeking post-doctoral candidates with interest and expertise in the areas listed below. However, applicants interested in collaborative or focused research involving other BTNRH laboratories are also encouraged to apply.

1. Auditory modeling and clinical diagnosis of auditory pathology (Primary mentor: Dr. Stephen T Neely, Director, Communications Engineering Laboratory, https://www.boystownhospital.org/research/hearing-speech-perception/communication-engineering)

2. Speech perception in complex listening environments in children with typical hearing or hearing loss (Primary mentor: Dr. Lori Leibold, Director, Human Auditory Development Laboratory, https://www.boystownhospital.org/research/hearing-speech-perception/human-auditory-development)

3. Effects of amplification, language and cognition on speech perception by children with hearing loss (Primary mentor: Dr. Ryan McCreery, Director, Audibility, Perception & Cognition Laboratory, https://www.boystownhospital.org/research/hearing-speech-perception/audibility-perception-cognition)

4. Perceptual and neural processes underlying spatial hearing and auditory scene analysis, including hearing in simulated rooms, and listening with cochlear implants or hearing aids (Primary mentor: Dr. G.
