[AUDITORY] Post Doc Opportunity - Univ of Iowa Cochlear Implant Electrophysiology

Dear Colleagues

The Cochlear Implant Electrophysiology Lab at the University of Iowa seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. Funding is available for a two-year term ending November 2022. Start date is in Fall 2020 but flexible.  Applicants should have a PhD or an AuD with significant research background.

The lab is directed by Carolyn Brown PhD and Paul Abbas PhD. Current work focuses on the role that the peripheral auditory system plays in determining outcome for standard CI users as well as CI users with preserved acoustic hearing who utilize both electric and acoustic stimulation in the implanted ear (EAS). The lab routinely uses both intra-operative and post-operative recordings of electrically evoked compound action potentials (ECAP) and acoustically evoked electrocochleography (ECoG).  The goal is to translate electrophysiological measures of auditory function to clinical practice. Current projects are also underway that involve psychophysical and cortical measures of spectral and temporal processing in EAS CI users.

The University of Iowa has a rich history of cochlear implant clinical care and research productivity. The CI program has been funded by a NIH/NIDCD P50 Clinical Center grant since 1985. The center implants 130 CIs per year and is also one of few centers with a high population of EAS CI users (200+ EAS CIs implanted to date). The lab is physically integrated into the CI clinic, allowing for interaction with the clinical CI teams.
