Outcomes" (HALO) study, a longitudinal cohort study looking at outcomes in primary-school-aged children with mild to profound sensorineural hearing loss. The post-holder will assist in the design and running of the study, which will involve psychophysical
and psychometric testing, along with obtaining clinical and academic measures from health and education providers. In addition, the post-holder will be involved in the analysis and write up of the results for publication. The post is available on a full-time
basis for 48 months in the first instance, and cases for part-time working will be considered. The project is funded by an MRC Senior Fellowship in Hearing Research awarded to Dr Lorna Halliday. Qualifications The successful candidate will have, or be in the final stages of completing, a PhD or equivalent research doctorate in Psychology, Audiology, Cognitive Neuroscience, or a related discipline.
Experience of auditory psychophysics, cognitive testing, and/or audiology is essential, as is an interest in auditory perception, language, and hearing research. The post-holder should be highly considerate of the research participants, their families, and
the educational and healthcare teams supporting the children and their families. They should have excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work well within a multidisciplinary environment. Experience of working with children is highly desirable. Research environment The MRC CBSU is an internationally renowned research institute for cognitive neuroscience. Our research investigates fundamental human cognitive processes such as attention, language,
memory, and emotion, and does so using a combination of behavioural experiments, neuroimaging, and computer modelling. Onsite facilities include the Centre for Attention, Learning, and Memory (CALM), a dedicated Hearing Laboratory for performing auditory experiments,
as well as research-dedicated EEG, MRI, and MEG laboratories. The MRC CBSU benefits from excellent links to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are committed to the engagement and retention of talented scientists and to creating an environment that encourages excellence in research by supporting and encouraging equality and
diversity. Candidates from minority and/or under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first instance. Closing date: 19th January 2020. |
