[AUDITORY] Faculty position at the University of Minnesota (Audiology / Hearing Science)



Greetings to all of my auditory colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that the University of Minnesota has a new tenure-track faculty position in audiology. Peggy Nelson is the search chair, and I am a member of the audiology section of the department as well. The quality of colleagues in our university is exceptional, and I’m excited to keep building by attracting a new scholar who might be among the members of this list.

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in fall semester of 2020, to strengthen our missions in audiology and hearing science.

We are searching for a scholar whose work focuses on hearing disorders; attractive areas of research include developmental aspects of hearing loss and electrophysiological assessment of hearing.

We are committed to attracting candidates from historically underrepresented groups knowing that diversity enriches the academic experience and provides a knowledge base for innovation.

Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May). Appointment will be made at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy.

** Required Qualifications: **
 - History of scholarship within the field of audiology, hearing science or another relevant discipline with clear connection to audiology.
 - Demonstrated ability and eagerness to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general-interest courses, courses on clinical topics, and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
- A Ph.D. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Disorders, Psychology, Education, or other related discipline by the start date of their appointment

** Preferred Qualifications include: **
- Demonstrated expertise in hearing disorders in children, rehabilitative audiology, neurophysiological measures of hearing, or a combination of these areas.
- History of competitiveness for seeking and obtaining research funding
- An advanced degree in audiology
- Familiarity and direct experience with the goals of clinical audiology, especially graduate student training
- Clinical experience in audiology.

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation, evidence of research and scholarly competence, potential for obtaining external research funding, evidence of commitment to and skills in teaching, and strength of recommendations.

Candidates will also be evaluated according to evidence of attention to cultural diversity in teaching, research, and/or service and the proven ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.

Duties and responsibilities:

Faculty in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research; to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses; to advise BA, MA, AuD, and/or PhD students; and contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession.

** About the Department **
The department offers internationally recognized programs in speech-language­-hearing sciences (BA, Ph.D.), speech-language pathology (M.A.), and audiology (Au.D.) that provide outstanding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue academic, educational, and clinical careers.

The department hosts a Bilingual Multicultural Emphasis Certificate Program for graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology.  Faculty research and teaching are strongly supported at the unit and collegiate levels.  Interdisciplinary collaborations abound across the university.

Many faculty collaborate with university-wide centers, including the Center for Cognitive Sciences, the Center for Applied and Translational Sensory Sciences, and the Center for Clinical Movement Disorders. The department also has ongoing collegial relationships with the departments of Psychology, Otolaryngology, and with the College of Education and Human Development.
