HEARING SCIENTIST AT NAL 

SUMMARY 
The National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL) is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Hearing Scientist to work on world-leading research focused on changing the lives of people with hearing loss. This is an opportunity for an experienced and creative individual to collaborate with a NAL’s multidisciplinary team, working together to perform cutting-edge research in clinical audiology, auditory perception, cognition and hearing, paediatric hearing impairment, and hearing loss prevention. 

NAL (https://www.nal.gov.au/) is a world-leading research centre whose research has had a worldwide impact on the treatment of hearing loss. Located in Sydney Australia, NAL’s laboratories and offices are in the Australian Hearing Hub, a one-of-a-kind facility inhabited by numerous organisations dedicated to the treatment of hearing loss. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
The ideal candidate will possess: 
Education 
- A PhD in a relevant area with focus on hearing science, auditory processing or cognition and hearing 
Experience 
- At least 5 years of postdoctoral research in hearing science, hearing impairment or related field 
- Extensive experience executing successful research projects from initiation to publication 
- Strong practical research skills, including the use of audiological and psychoacoustic instrumentation, Matlab and statistics software. 
- Proven ability to work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines 
- Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills 
- Excellent written and oral communication skills 

RESPONSIBILITIES 
- Contribute to the development of new ideas that meet NAL’s strategic objectives 
- Design and conduct speech and hearing research that will lead to innovative breakthroughs in understanding and treating hearing loss 
- Develop experimental software, analyse data and interpret results 
- Publish research in scientific journals and present results at conferences 
- Collaborate on research projects with researchers at NAL’s partner organisations 
- Provide hearing scientific expertise to the whole of NAL
