POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW POSITION

Topic: Neuroimaging of Human Auditory Cognition and Communication

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented research candidate to work on a project about the neural basis of auditory cognition and nonverbal auditory communication (i.e. neural processing of voices and voice signals) using state-of-the-art neuroimaging and analysis techniques. Starting date for the position is September 2019 (or later). Salary is according to the regulations of the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The position is initially available for 2 years, with a possible extension of 1 more year. Employment volume will be 80-100%, and will be negotiated based on qualifications. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

 

Responsibilities:

• Plan and run fMRI experiments, analysis of experimental brain data.

• Use of psychoacoustic and neuroscientific methods to investigate brain responses to human voices.

• Communication of scientific results in scientific publications and at scientific meetings.

• Supervision of PhD students as well as of Bachelor- and Master students.

 

Requirements and qualifications:

• PhD with excellent scores in one of the following disciplines: Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, Neuroinformatics, or related fields.

• Good knowledge and skills in neuroscientific methods, especially with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG).

• Broad experiences with empirical psychological or neuroscientific studies; previous experiences with social neuroscience studies is advantageous.

• If possible, you should have a background in auditory neuroscience with a focus on neuroscientific studies of auditory communication.

• Statistical and programming skills (i.e. Matlab, Python, etc.) are a requirement.

• Good knowledge of written and oral English is desirable.

• Flexibility, ability to learn fast, and the ability to work independently as well as in a scientific team are very welcome.
