[AUDITORY] Syllable duration in read speech

Dear List,

Does anyone know of published data on mean syllable duration in connected speech, produced while reading aloud (e.g., from audiobooks or prose passages), in English or Mandarin Chinese?  Ideally the data would be from a reasonably large corpus with multiple speakers.
