[AUDITORY] Postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroplasticity and Auditory Aging at the University of Maryland

*Postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroplasticity and Auditory Aging at the University of Maryland*

We are currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroplasticity and Auditory Aging at the University of Maryland, College Park, sponsored by a P01 grant from the National Institute of Aging. The candidate will join a project whose goal is to improve speech recognition in noise for older normal-hearing adults. This is to be accomplished by the design, implementation, and testing of interventions that train top-down, executive functions while performing auditory tasks. The team includes Dr. Jonathan Simon, Dr. Samira Anderson, Dr. Stefanie Kuchinsky, in addition to many trainees.

Primary responsibilities include experimental design, analysis, interpretation, and scientific presentation of neuroscience and behavioral experiments supporting speech processing in noise, for both younger and older adults. Techniques include the use of MEG, Pupillometry, and MRI. Previous experience in any of these areas is highly desirable. Background knowledge in aging, speech or computational techniques is also desirable.

In addition to working on this project, the fellow will be encouraged to develop an independent research program and to collaborate with others.

The University of Maryland, College Park, is a world leader in auditory neuroscience and behavior, whose researchers span many departments across campus, and also have strong ties to nearby institutions, including the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). College Park is a suburb of Washington DC and also within easy commuting distance of Baltimore.

A Ph.D. in Audiology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Neuroscience, Psychology or a related field must be obtained by the applicant’s start date. The fellowship is for a two-year appointment with the potential for renewal upon the mutual agreement of the fellow and mentors.

Send a brief cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and two letters of reference to Dr. Samira Anderson, Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742 USA or to sander22@xxxxxxx. Initial review will begin immediately. The University of Maryland is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Employment eligibility verification required on hire.
