[AUDITORY] Postdoc in amusia and autism at the University of Reading

Dear all,

We are seeking a PDRA to undertake research for an ERC funded research project entitled “Cracking the pitch code in music and language: Insights from congenital amusia (CA) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD).” The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent research on music and language processing in CA and ASD.

Specifically, the post holder will conduct a series of behavioural and EEG studies to test cognitive and pitch processing skills and speech, music, and emotion production and perception abilities in Mandarin/English speakers with or without CA or ASD, in order to understand the underlying mechanisms of pitch processing in music and language.

The successful candidate will have:

·        A PhD in psychology or a related discipline;

·        Knowledge of auditory processing, music cognition, and language processing;

·        Experience and skills of methods and tools for appropriate data handling and statistical analysis, and psychological testing methods;

·        Excellent organisational skills, able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail;

·        Willingness to travel internationally to conduct research

This is the third PDRA position to be employed for this 5-year project, working on aspects of cognitive/pitch/speech/music processing in CA and ASD in Work Package 3. A PhD student has also been recruited for WP3, focusing on Mandarin speakers with or without CA or ASD. The PDRA and the PhD student are expected to collaborate closely on the project.

Please follow the link below to apply for this position, or forward the link to anyone who might be interested. Many thanks!
