Re: [AUDITORY] Moving the AUDITORY list?

Dan

Thank you for your dedication to and continued support of the community.

I’m a list admin that was on Majordomo for close to two decades. It was migrated to GoogleGroups as co-admin about 3-4 years ago. There were a few very minor problems. As I recall, at the time the limit to mass migration was possibly 10 [?] addresses at a time. With about 800 on the list, it took a little while, but was almost without problem.

People who try to post and who are not on the list get bounced to the admins, and approval is simply replying to the query. The list gets about 5 requests a month that need to be approved. It appears GoogleGroups remembers these addresses.

There are numerous options for receiving notifications, real time, daily digest and even suspension, which allows posting, but not receiving the postings.

The entire change-over took about 2 days. All of the addresses were added to GoogleGroups, one or two test emails were sent out, and the Majordomo list was closed.

I recommend a label for the Subject line. Something simple like [** AUD] to give the messages clear identification.

The list also handles images and variable fonts with no difficulty.

Dear Dan,

Like the other people in this discussion, I have benefited greatly over the years from your support of the Auditory List and I wish to express my undying gratitude to you for the very valuable system you have provided. I also marvel at your ability to do it.

Having followed the discussion on the list with interest, I think migrating to Google Groups is a reasonable option, and if you are really willing to do the migrating, I suspect that it is very likely our best option.
