Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Audiologist in Auditory Perception and Cochlear Implants with Translational Focus

The Maryland Cochlear Implant Center of Excellence (MCICE) leverages the existing strengths of University of Maryland-Baltimore School of Medicine (UMB), the University of Maryland-College Park (UMCP), and the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) to build a cohesive entity composed of educational, clinical, and research components (https://mcice.umd.edu/). 

The project is funded by the State of Maryland’s MPower Initiative, supporting collaboration across campuses. MCICE is offering a full-time research position (either a postdoctoral researcher or research audiologist) to work on joint translational research projects with cochlear implants.

The position will involve working closely with both clinicians and scientists. The researcher will work primarily with Matthew Goupell, Ph.D. (UMCP) and Ronna Hertzano, M.D., Ph.D. (UMB), but will also interact with other auditory neuroscience researchers at both institutions, including those in the Center for Comparative Evolutionary Biology of Hearing (CCEBH, https://www.ccebh.umd.edu/). The primary appointment will be at UMCP; time will be split approximately 60% at UMCP and 40% at UMB.

A successful applicant should have an AuD, PhD, or other comparable doctoral degree. The doctoral degree should be in hearing science, communicative disorders, engineering, and/or other related fields. The researcher should be detail oriented and highly organized. Experience conducting behavioral research is also desired.

Responsibilities may include perception testing, patient recruitment to genetic studies in hearing and balance, audiological/clinical testing, cochlear-implant programming at both UMB and UMCP, as well as administrative duties to perform joint research projects and help with grant writing. Background/experience in electrophysiology is not necessary, but would be a bonus. Applicants should also be interested in learning genetics. Preference will be given to those who have a good mix of research, clinical, and administrative skills.

The positions will be filled from earliest November 15, 2018 for a period of 12 months with a possibility of continuation.
