[AUDITORY] PhD position in "Quantification of perceived quality of sound fields with dynamic relations between listener and source positions" is open for applications

Dear List

The introduction of metadata or “audio objects” in programme material (see ITU-R BS.2088-0, ITU-R BS.2051-0 and ISO-IEC_23008-3) means that it will be possible to increase the complexity of the reproduction system to include rendering of moveable sound objects in domestic and public environments. Alongside, augmented and mixed reality systems (AR and MR) can provide the user with complex static or dynamic sound scenarios that blend with real world sound.

The objective for the PhD project is to develop experimental paradigms that can produce objective Sound Quality or Quality of Experience data for different scenarios e.g.:

  1. Static listener position with a static position of sound sources (base line setup),
  2. Fixed listener position with dynamic positions of audio objects,
  3. Dynamic listening position (e.g. the listener moves around in the room) and dynamic positions of audio objects.

The project is a collaborative effort between Aalborg University, Bang & Olufsen a/s and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The project will primarily take place at the Section for Signal and Information Processing (SIP), Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University with secondments at Bang & Olufsen and Nanyang Technological University. The successful applicant must have a Master’s degree in EE including human perception of sound, sensory analysis of complex auditory stimuli, statistical analysis of sensory data, signal processing for multimedia technology or similar. Excellent undergraduate and master’s degree grades are expected. A high level of written and spoken English is also expected.

PhD positions in Denmark are fully funded, i.e. no tuition fees, and come with a salary. The salary is subject to a pay grade system based on prior working experience since completing your undergraduate degree. The yearly gross salary is in the range 41.500 – 50.100 Euros.
