A Post Doc position in the field of applied auditory and visual perception is open from 1st semester, 2019, at the University of Lyon.

 

Title: Impacts of naturalness on auditory and visual perceptions in urban public outdoor environments

Description of the position

Context

This post-doctoral position is part of the VISON project, funded by the IMU LabEx (Intelligences des Mondes Urbains) and CeLyA LabEx (Centre Lyonnais d’Acoustique) of the University of Lyon. Three laboratories are involved in this project : Laboratoire Environnement Ville et Société (EVS), Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon (CRNL) and Laboratoire Génie Civil et Bâtiment (LGCB). The aim is to study how different ways of managing nature in urban public environments impact auditory and visual perceptions and their interactions. The impact of the type of management (intensive vs extensive management) and the ambient sound will be studied. Outdoor environments with green areas will be considered.

Missions

Psychophysical and physiological (pupil diameter, gaze behavior, heart rate, EEG) experiments will be carried out under controlled conditions to deeply analyze audio-visual interactions.

The post-doc researcher will set up and carry out the experiments. A first experiment is ready to be carried out. He/she will analyze the data and present the results at project meetings and conferences, in project reports and in articles submitted in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Qualifications

Potential candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree with experience in psychophysics, knowledge in statistical analyses and good skills in English scientific writing. Abilities in French communication will be appreciated. Skills in physical measurements (e.g. sound, light), in physiological measurements (e.g. pupil diameter, gaze fixation and saccade, heart rate, EEG) and in programming (e.g. Python, Matlab) are required.
