The Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education at Utah State University is seeking applicants for the position of Department Head. This is a 12-month administrative appointment. Successful candidates should have qualifications for tenure at the rank of Professor. Position begins July 2018.
Utah State University is a Carnegie doctoral-extensive institution with approximately $200 million of externally funded research each year. Founded in 1888, USU is the oldest and largest public residential campus in Utah. The university enrolls approximately 15,000 students at its main campus in Logan, including nearly 1,700 graduate students. The College of Education and Human Services is consistently ranked in the top 2% in the nation.
The Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education includes more than 40 research and clinical faculty, academic instructors, and student advisors in the divisions of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and Deaf Education. The department head's work is supported by three division chairs and a strong cadre of administrative staff.
The department offers campus and online bachelor's degrees in communicative disorders, master's degrees in speech-language pathology and deaf education, and the clinical AuD. The department is also an active part of the interdisciplinary PhD program in Disability Disciplines and the interdisciplinary PhD program in Neuroscience. Research faculty benefit from state-of-the-art facilities with attractive research start-up, college-level grant management and statistical support, and competitive internal university research funding. Faculty in the Department conducted over $5 million worth of extramurally funded research, training, and technical assistance projects last year.
Utah State University is in Logan, a small city located in a community of approximately 120,000 inhabitants, 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. It is situated in the scenic high mountains of Cache Valley. Logan is a family-oriented community with a reasonable cost of living. Outdoor activities include excellent hiking, biking, skiing, and water sports. Regional locations of interest include Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyoming to the north and the red rock country of Arches National Park and Moab to the south.
