I am conducting an online listening study to assess the detectability of modulations in the singer’s formant in choir performances.
These modulations were elicited by varying whether or not girls were in the audience during performances by the St Thomas Boys Choir of Leipzig. The basses exhibited an enhanced singer’s formant when girls were present.
The online study aims to find out whether this ‘embellishment’ is noticeable to listeners.
