Call for Hearing Scientist or Research Associate - *Position available immediately*: 

The U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) located at Fort Rucker, AL is looking for a qualified Hearing Scientist or qualified Hearing Research Associate to provide scientific and management support services to the Auditory Protection and Performance Division (APPD). Depending on qualifications and experience, the salary for either position will substantially exceed NIH pay-scales for the successful candidate who can start immediately. This is a two-year position with the potential for a more permanent role depending on the candidate's fit, productivity, and contribution to the ongoing research at APPD.

USAARL's research includes developing return-to-duty and injury prevention standards, determining the effectiveness of life support equipment, personnel protective equipment, as well as preventing and mitigating ground and aircrew biomechanical injuries. The APPD maintains a unique capability in applied medical and operational research in the areas of auditory and vestibular sciences. The research mission of the Division is to conduct sensory research to protect, sustain, and extend the operational capabilities of our Army's Service members. 

This is also an exciting time for our lab as we begin building a new research program dedicated to advancing and optimizing human-machine interface capabilities. Collaborating in a group of approximately ten scientists, engineers, technicians, and Soldiers, the successful applicant will function as investigator and assist in formulating, conducting, and directing original basic and applied research.

Degree/Education/Certification Requirements: 
* Research doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in Hearing Science, broadly defined (e.g., Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Physiology, Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, etc.) or other equivalent education.  Clinical doctoral degrees (e.g., Au.D., Psy.D., M.D., etc.) typically are not appropriate for this position.

Hearing Scientist
* Minimum of 8 years of experience or at least 5 years of research experience following the awarding of the research doctoral degree. 
* Demonstrated record of productivity and publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

Hearing Research Associate
* Two years or more post-doctoral experience is desired; however, exceptionally qualified recent Ph.D. graduates will also be considered. 
* Minimum of one first-authored journal publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Position Requirements: 
* Skills and competencies to conduct experiments and analyze data. 
* Strong knowledge of statistical analysis.
* Proficient in MATLAB software coding. 
* Demonstrated work with Tucker-Davis Technology and National Instruments hardware and software.
* Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Clearance: 
* U.S. Citizenship is required. 
* Must have a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries or an equivalent or higher investigation in accordance with Army Directive 2014-05. 

Duties and responsibilities: 
* The successful candidate will become credentialed as a USAARL Principal Investigator (PI) which requires at least 2 years of doctoral research experience and at least one first-authored, peer-reviewed publication. 
* The candidate will become the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on research protocols and test plans supporting the Auditory Protection and Performance Division task areas.
* The candidate will have the ability to work independently with no direction to solve scientific, analytic, and technical problems.
* The candidate will help recruit volunteer participants for approved research protocols and test plans, obtaining and documenting volunteer informed consent, conducting research protocols and test plans, performing data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
* The candidate will become accredited by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC).
