Research Fellow: Spatial Audio Assessment University of Salford - School of Computing, Science and Engineering Location: Salford Salary: £32,004 to £38,183 Hours: Full Time Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract Placed on: 20th June 2017 Closes: 10th July 2017 Job Ref: 1647414 Permanent or length of contract: 24 months The Acoustics Research Centre at the University of Salford is looking to employ a postdoctoral research fellow on an EPSRC funded programme grant on spatial audio. 3D sound can offer listeners the experience of "being there" at a live event,
such as the Proms, but currently requires highly controlled listening spaces and loudspeaker setups. The goal of the programme grant is to realize practical 3D audio for the general public at home. The project is a collaboration with the Universities of Surrey
and Southampton, and BBC R&D. You will lead the work at Salford University investigating how to assess listener experience of spatial audio systems. You will also support research on personalization in object based audio. You will do this by developing, carrying out
and analyzing psychoacoustics measurements. You will work closely with BBC R&D and Delta to develop and refine assessment methods relevant to new international standards. We expect candidates to have a PhD in acoustics, preferably in spatial audio. The successful candidate will be proficient in perceptual experimentation.
