Dear all, A position for one doctoral student is available at the Laboratory of Signal Processing (LTS2) of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. The position is connected to a research project with Sonova AG (Phonak, Unitron, Advanced Bionics…), the worldwide leader of the hearing aid market. The aim of the project is
to improve the spatial perception of sounds rendered by hearing aids. In order to achieve this, new audio signal processing algorithms will be developed, aiming at enhancing the perception of: a) Externalized sound sources, b) Naturalness of sound. The goal
of this project is to develop new features for the next generation of hearing aids comprising of superior qualities, with respect to spatial sound perception. A clinical validation will close the project. The acoustic group of the LTS2 is composed of a senior scientist (head of the team), 3 post-docs and 3 PhD students. We work in various activities, including psychoacoustics,
audio signal processing, hearing aid technology, active noise control and electroacoustic metamaterials. Since 2012, the laboratory has worked in collaboration with Sonova AG in the research and development of new functionalities for Phonak “Roger” wireless
transmitters and receivers, from the technological aspects to the clinical evaluations. The current project is a follow-up of that previous work. The expected profile includes:
·
Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Computer Science
·
Strong skills in audio signal processing, psychoacoustics, or hearing science
·
Experience in analyzing the perception of audio stimuli
·
Comfortable with Matlab and Simulink. Programming in C or Python is a plus
·
Fluent English, basic French (for communication with French-speaking patients)
Applications, including CV and cover letter, must be sent to Gilles Courtois (gilles.courtois@xxxxxxx)
before March 1st. If selected, the candidate(s) will deposit their application within the framework of the Doctoral School of Electrical Engineering (EDEE:
http://phd.epfl.ch/edeeapplicants, deadline on April 30th), or the Doctoral School in Computer and Communication Sciences (EDIC:
