Postdoctoral Positions in Auditory Cortical Plasticity

Two fully-funded postdoctoral positions are available in Cerebral Systems Laboratory led by Dr. Steve Lomber, in the Brain and Mind Institute and National Centre for Audiology at the University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario, Canada).  Work in the Cerebral Systems Lab investigates multisensory and crossmodal plasticity in auditory cortex of hearing animals as well as animals with hearing loss (deafness) and hearing restoration (via cochlear prosthetics).  We use an integrative approach combining behavioral psychophysics, single- and multiunit electrophysiological recording, reversible deactivation techniques, and functional MRI.  All work is conducted in feline and monkey models of human hearing and hearing loss.  Applicants with an interest in auditory neuroscience, cortical plasticity, and multisensory processing are highly encouraged to apply.  For more information about the lab, see: www.cerebralsystems.ca.

Before the proposed start date, the candidate(s) must have completed a PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology, Psychology, Computer Science, or related discipline, with a record of research success.  Applicants are expected to have a strong background in Systems/Cognitive Neuroscience or Hearing Science and training in behavioral psychophysics, electrophysiological recording, and/or functional MRI.  Quantitative and programming skills in MATLAB or equivalent are expected.  The laboratory is an energetic, innovative, highly productive, and highly collaborative research environment with a strong commitment to the training and career development of postdoctoral fellows.  The successful candidate(s) must have the ability to work creatively and independently. Our facilities include 5 sound booths for electrophysiological and psychophysical investigations, a dedicated surgical suite, histology and microscopy labs, and access to the research-dedicated ultra-high field (7T, 9.4T) magnets at the Centre for Functional and Metabolic Mapping at the Robarts Research Institute.

Annual salary will be based on the level of experience.  Start date is flexible, but candidates will be expected to take up the position in 2017.  Highly qualified candidates will be eligible to apply for federal and local postdoctoral fellowships.  Initial appointments will be for a period of 2 years, with a possibility for renewal up to 5 years.  Further inquiries and applications including a CV, names of three references, and a statement of research interest should be sent by email to steve.lomber@xxxxxx.

UWO is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or status as a qualified individual with a disability.  As we enjoy a Trump-free lifestyle, we welcome applicants from outside Canada and refugees fleeing the US.
