Dear All, I have a funded Postdoc position on electrophysiological measurement and voice in neurological disease available. The full details are included below. Please share this with others! Best wishes, Sona Patel NIH-funded Postdoctoral Position (Electrophysiology and Voice) Available Immediately A full-time postdoc position (1-2 years) is available in the Voice Analytics and Neuropsychology (VAN) Lab at Seton Hall University. POSITION AND PROJECT: One major focus of our research is to understand the role of sensory-motor control of voice (using DAF, FAF) and to model the underlying neural circuitry. This postdoc position is part of an NIH funded project to investigate whether disturbances in the neural network for voice control are at the root of the voice issues in Parkinson’s disease. We use and combine EEG/ERP data and voice measures using an altered auditory feedback task. The candidate will have ample opportunity to earn authorship on publications and attend conferences in the field. This is an interdisciplinary project involving collaborators at Northwestern University, the University of Zurich, and the University of Fribourg. Salary is in accordance with NIH guidelines. SKILLS: Successful candidates will: • Be highly motivated individuals interested in imaging research in neurological disease. • Possess a Ph.D. in speech-language pathology, audiology, psychology, neuroscience, engineering, or a related field. • Have a strong background in electrophysiological recording and analysis • Have a good command of English • Have publications in peer-reviewed journals Preference will be given to candidates with good programming skills (Matlab), statistical data analysis, and experience conducting behavioral research. Research duties include: • Programming and conducting behavioral and neuroimaging (EEG, ERP) experiments with human subjects • Analyzing behavioral and neuroimaging data • Writing manuscripts for publication • Pursuing his/her own research agenda with guidance. MENTOR AND LAB: The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Sona Patel (https://www.shu.edu/profiles/sonapatel.cfm). The VAN Lab is a newly equipped research laboratory with a 9 x 7 IAC sound booth, a BrainVision 64-channel EEG system, and high-end computer and audio equipment. A main interest of the VAN Lab is to develop neuropsychological indicators of speaker traits, states, and intentions (e.g., emotions, stress,…) that can ultimately inform us of human behaviors (e.g., client/consumer satisfaction, attraction, empathy,…) or of an underlying pathology (e.g., neurological disease). We primarily examine vocal behavior (voice and speech cues) together with neuroimaging. The VAN Lab is a rather new and growing lab with 6 part-time research assistants, which enables as much individualized attention as required. The lab also has clinical collaborations with Hackensack University Medical Center, Kessler Rehabilitation Institute, and a couple of independent physicians for patient testing. ENVIRONMENT: Seton Hall University is located in South Orange, NJ, which is uniquely located within 14 miles to NYC. The School of Health and Medical Sciences has affiliations with hospitals and clinics throughout the Northern New Jersey/NYC Metropolitan area. The Department of Speech-Language Pathology offers opportunities for collaborative research, teaching, and clinical experience if desired. HOW TO APPLY: Please send your CV, cover letter describing relevant experience, research interests, and career goals, and the names/contact information of 2 references to Dr. Sona Patel at sona.patel@xxxxxxx. The closing date is Feb 29, 2016; however, applications will be reviewed immediately and on a rolling basis until filled. Please note that offers are contingent on the candidate’s completion of background screening to the satisfaction of Seton Hall University. |
