CVC corpus

Speech perception researchers may be interested in a set of 14,400 consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) syllables that can be downloaded for research use at www.ebire.org/hcnlab ...(see the link to “Cognitive tests and hearing programs” at the bottom of the page).   The syllables were constructed from the exhaustive combination of 20 onset consonants, 20 coda consonants, and 3 vowels (/ɑ/, /i/, /u/). Nineteen consonants (/p/, /t/, /k/, /f/, /ɵ/, /s/, /ʃ/, /ʧ/, /b/, /d/, /g/, /v/, /ð/, /z/, /ʤ/, /m/, /n/, /l/, and /r/) occur at onset and coda consonant positions, while /h/ occurs only in onset position and /ŋ/ only in coda.  The set includes 2,400 CVCs recorded from each of six talkers (three female). Speech spectrum noise samples matched to the average speech spectrum of each talker are also available, along with the software needed the run the California Syllable Test (CaST) and Consonant in Noise Training (CINT).  The use of these consonant sets is described in the following publications:
