Fatima— The main principles governing “fair use” of material in your context are (a) that the usage is for scholarly and/or educational purposes (i.e., non-commercial), and (b) that you are not making use of a substantial portion of the original work/recording. This has led to the “30 second rule,” which is more a rule of thumb—since 30 seconds of a 3-5 minute song is likely to pass the “not a substantial portion” of the work requirement.
