Postdoctoral Researcher (Audio Pattern Recognition)

Job description:	The Postdoctoral Researcher will do research in ERC-funded project EVERYSOUND (Computational Analysis of Everyday Soundscapes) to develop algorithms for pattern recognition of audio signals. The project does frontier research related to interpretation of sounds in everyday environments such as street, home, and office. The project deals with a large variety of different types of sounds in realistic environments that contain overlapping sounds and noises.

Requirements: The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree from a discipline related to the job, for example Computer Science, Signal Processing, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning. Experience in state-of-the-art pattern recognition techniques (e.g. deep neural networks, recurrent and convolutional networks) and related software tools (e.g. Pylearn2 or Torch7) are appreciated. Fluent written and spoken English and solid programming skills (Python/Matlab/C/C++) are appreciated.

A strong academic track record and interest to work with audio signals are expected. The successful candidate should possess the competence to pursue independent scientific work and the teaching skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Experience of studying and working abroad and contacts to international research will be appreciated.

Salary: The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher is placed on the job demands levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance based salary. Usually the starting salary for Postdoctoral Researcher is 2900-4800 EUR/month depending on the researcher's experience.

The position will be filled for a fixed term period of two years. The commencement date will be June-October 2015, but can be negotiated. Applications must be submitted by TUT online application form found from the following link:

Postdoctoral Researcher (Sound Categorization)

Job description:	The Postdoctoral Researcher will do research in ERC-funded project EVERYSOUND (Computational Analysis of Everyday Soundscapes) to develop a taxonomy for a large number of everyday sound events, and machine learning tools to operate with the taxonomy. The project does frontier research related to interpretation of sounds in everyday environments such as street, home, and office. The project will deal with a large variety of different types of sounds with different sources and sound production mechanisms.

Requirements: The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree from a discipline related to the job, for example Computer Science, Information Science or Artificial Intelligence. We expect experience in two or more of the following fields: natural language processing, ontologies, semantic networks, pattern recognition. Experience in related software tools such as Wordnet is appreciated. Fluent written and spoken English and solid programming skills (Python/Matlab/C/C++/Perl/Java) are appreciated.
