EarLens Corporation has an opening for a Biomechanics Research Engineer positionCOMPANY OVERVIEW: EarLens is a venture-backed medical device startup located in Menlo Park, CA. The company was founded by an ear surgeon, scientists and engineers and is well funded by top-tier VCs and the NIH. Our teams of engineers are developing groundbreaking technology that utilizes laser light to directly drive the ear drum and generate higher levels of output over a much broader frequency range than any other hearing aid on the market. We expect our enhanced sound performance to significantly improve the listening experience for patients with hearing impairment. We are looking for highly motivated, intelligent, well rounded, passionate engineers that can help us transform the world of hearing and positively impact millions of lives.POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for a mechanical or biomechanics engineer to lead computational modeling efforts and physiological measurements of the unique tympanic membrane direct contact transducer. You will be responsible for making measurements on human cadaver temporal bones using laser Doppler vibrometry and for developing lumped-element and finite element models of the human middle ear and it’s interface with the transducer. A firm understanding of modeling approaches including MATLAB and COMSOL multi-physics or similar techniques is critical to success. Being a startup, the position will require significant hands-on work in the trenches working side by side with the engineers that will develop new devices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned as necessary)1. Lead the development of finite-element model of the electro-mechanical balanced armature motor 2. Incorporate light-driven driven photodiode 3. Develop the tympanic membrane transducer that directly vibrates the ear drum 4. Do system integration of the entire transducer and test against bench measurements 5. Refine existing lumped-element model of the human middle ear 6. Incorporate the transducer into the lumped-element and finite-element models of the human middle ear 7. Perform transducer measurements in human cadaver temporal bones using laser Doppler vibrometry techniques 8. Test the models in-situ against measurements in temporal bones 9. Ensure that the measurement work is completed in compliance with the EarLens Quality System 10. Maintain and manage the anatomy lab QUALIFICATIONS: To be successful in job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Masters degree preferably in mechanical or biomechanical engineering with several years of finite element modeling experience, or an advanced degree such as a PhD in same areas is preferred.Interested parties should apply by sending a CV/Resume to <careers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, or you can contact Lisa Maxson <LMaxson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>.Sunil Puria, PhD EARLENS Corporation Chief Scientist 4045A Campbell Avenue Menlo Park, CA 94025 Phone: (650) 814-0505 Stanford University Depts. of ME & OHNS OtoBiomechanics Group http://sites.stanford.edu/otobiomechanics/ |
