Postdoctoral position in auditory perception and aging at Northwestern University
A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Hearing Aid Laboratory (www.halab.northwestern.edu) at Northwestern University to work with Dr. Pamela Souza and her collaborators on topics related to auditory perception, aging and cognition. The position is supported by an award from the National Institutes of Health (NIDCD). This translational project will involve cognitive and auditory testing as well as hearing-aid fitting and outcomes measurement in older adults with hearing impairment. Specific factors under study include variability in speech understanding among older listeners; how cognition contributes to that variability; and the extent to which those issues can be addressed with specific hearing aid signal-processing strategies. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a field related to auditory or cognitive science (audiology, psychology, engineering, gerontology, etc.), as well as strong communication and organizational skills. The candidate will participate in all phases of research including experimental design, participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, grant administration, supervision of student research assistants, and dissemination of results at scientific conferences and in research publications.
The position is initially supported for one year. Additional years of support may be available contingent on satisfactory progress. Mentorship in grant writing will be available for candidates who wish to seek independent funding. Salary is commensurate with NIH and University post-doctoral stipend levels.
The position is housed within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders on the Evanston campus. The Department has a strong translational hearing research program including a number of research laboratories and a state-of-the-art hearing clinic that provides clinical hearing services to the greater Chicago area
