Octave and chroma in auditory cortex



Dear list members,

Two years ago, many of you showed an interest in octave lamination in the
auditory thalamus. Today, I can add that physiological data also show a
strong impact of this lamination on cortical auditory processing.

The data were published in 1999 and 2000. However, before 2001, thalamic
octave lamination had never been mentioned explicitly in a journal. So it is
no surprise that in 1999 and 2000 the authors did not present any
suggestions as to the causes of their findings. After 2000 the authors
worked on other projects, and so it happened that the thalamocortical octave
connection remained completely absent from the literature for the past 12
years.
