Career workshop for PhD students in hearing research at IHR, 2-3 April 2009
Invitation to the 2nd European career workshop for PhD students in
hearing research, "Professional Opportunities for Hearing Scientists"
Presented by the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in collaboration with
the European Acoustics Association (EAA) to be held
2-3 April 2009 at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research, Nottingham, UK.
This workshop exclusively targets young professionals working towards a
PhD in hearing science and acoustics. The aim is to present pathways for
a career in industry, academia or the public sector and help to develop
an understanding of the skills needed to pursue a career. It will
provide an opportunity to meet representatives from key industries in
the field who will share their individual experiences covering a broad
range of related career options. The workshop will further present how
to obtain research funding and where from. The event will encourage
networking with young colleagues from across Europe by meeting at poster
presentations in a friendly, open atmosphere and over dinner. The
workshop will be free to participants, allowing attendance irrespective
of funding. The workshop will be held at MRC Institute of Hearing
Research, Nottingham, UK (www.ihr.mrc.ac.uk) on 2nd and 3rd April 2009.
There are NO attendance fees for participants; the workshop is financed
through sponsorship. Student attendees will be expected to fund their
own travel. Students are asked to contribute by giving a talk
introducing their work, lasting just one minute and by presenting a poster.
Registration opens on 02 February 2009 and spaces are limited to 40
participants. Please register as early as possible by filling out the
electronic registration form on the workshop’s webpage:
