Applications are invited for a 2 year Masters studentship, to start immediately, at the Dept. of Electronic Engineering, Cork Institute of Technology, Cork Ireland. The studentship provides support of €15000 p.a. and EU tuition fees. Applicants from outside the EU face a higher tuition fee.
The research is concerned with the computer-based modelling of musical playing style, in particular the relative deviations in timing, note duration and amplitude which help create _expression_ and playing style in solo musical performances, with a particular emphasis on Irish traditional music
The candidate is expected to have a good honours degree in electronic or computer engineering at upper second class or first class level. Knowledge of digital signal processing, while not essential, would be a distinct advantage. Also, a musical background, with a basic knowledge of music theory would be of considerable benefit. Experience with computer programming in C/C++ and MATLAB is also highly desireable.
