Dear Lists:
I was wondering if anyone had read an article describing "sonalgia". They described pain experienced with sound that was associational, rather than general. In this group, it noted that occupations where louds sounds was overrepresented, with musicians comprising a larger percentage of those experiencing pain with sound.
My question for the list is if anyone considered that the expansion (particularly in musicians) of the auditory cortex due to training or exposure could create some inappropriate communication with the pain receptors located in the post-central gyrus adjacent to the superior temporal lobe. A form of synathesia perhaps.
Or, I could be way off.
Any opinion would be nice
