About the STAT-L messages on AUDITORY

Some people have written asking about the three recent AUDITORY
messages concerning STAT-L-request. As far as I can tell, these arise
because some spam/virus program is sending messages to STAT-L-request
that appear to come from AUDITORY, both on lists.mcgill.ca.

As you know, the AUDITORY list has fairly strict conditions on what
messages are accepted, allowing only those whose "From" address
matches one of the list members. However, it appears that mail from
the LISTSERV agent itself are accepted, and because the STAT-L
responder is running on the same system, its messages pass this test.

I see no simple way to prevent these messages. I propose we ignore
them for the moment; if they become a greater distraction, I'll look
into more sophisticated ways to block them.

Thanks for your patience,
