MATLAB wavplay.m glitches in Windows 2000

Is anyone out there using MATLAB's wavplay.m code to play out sounds from
PCs under
Windows 2000?

This code seems fine in earlier versions of Windows, but often plays only small
parts of the vector sent to the function under Win 2000 (the sound()
function however
works fine. This happens in both release 12 (v6.0) and 12.1 (v6.1) of Matlab

Any ideas, solutions would be very welcome
