Our lab explores how aging and hearing loss influence auditory processing, cognition, and psychosocial well-being. We employ multichannel EEG/ERP, behavioral, and audiological methods to understand how the brain encodes and adapts to complex sound environments. *Key Research Areas:* - Neural and cognitive mechanisms of speech perception in noise - Cortical and subcortical auditory evoked potentials across the lifespa= n - Behavioral and physiological assessments of hearing and cognitive function - Relationships between auditory processing, cognition, and emotional well-being in older adults *Training & Responsibilities:* As a PhD student in the BEAR Lab, you will receive hands-on training in experimental design, multichannel EEG/ERP recording and analysis, audiological testing, and psychophysical measurement. Our lab houses a sound-attenuated booth, a 32-channel EEG system, and a full suite of audiological instruments. Students benefit from close mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and opportunities to publish and present at national and international conferences. PhD students will also have teaching responsibilities as part of their appointment and will receive mentoring in effective teaching practices. *Program Details:* Students will enroll in the PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (PhD SLHS) at the University of Montana. This research-focused doctorate is highly individualized to match each student=E2=80=99s interests and offers comprehensive training and experiential learning in research, teaching, grant writing, and scholarly dissemination. The program follows an apprenticeship model, where students work closely with a faculty mentor and draw on coursework from disciplines such as neuroscience and psychology. For more information about the program, visit: https://www.umt.edu/speech-language-hearing-occupational-sciences/graduate_= learning/phd-slhs/default.php <https://www.umt.edu/speech-language-hearing-occupational-sciences/graduate= _learning/phd-slhs/default.php?utm_source=3Dchatgpt.com> *Funding:* All PhD students receive funding through the School, which typically includes a tuition waiver and annual stipend. Further details will be shared with interested applicants.
