Assistant Professor of Psychology Position Description The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin invites a= pplications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall of academi= c year 2026-27. We seek a productive scholar with expertise in the application of computati= onal, data-science, and/or AI methods as applied to human data from one of = many domains (e.g. memory, attention, emotion, language, social behavior). = The ideal candidate will develop an active, independent research program th= at generates rich behavioral and/or brain data and leverages sophisticated = computational approaches to advance understanding of human behavior in heal= thy and/or clinical populations. The department boasts a vibrant and interactive faculty with interests in a= pplying an array of cutting-edge methods to understanding behavior across t= he lifespan. This critical mass of expertise is well-situated to provide ea= rly career mentorship and collaborative opportunities. Department faculty h= ave access to the leading supercomputer center in the country (Texas Advanc= ed Computing Center, TACC), a Siemens Prisma 3T scanner, and rich collabora= tive opportunities across Computer Science, Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Neuro= logy, Neurosurgery, and Engineering, among other units. As well, the Depart= ment recently launched a new college-wide major in Behavioral and Social Da= ta Science (BSDS), the first undergraduate degree program in the country de= voted to producing data-science-ready graduates with a solid understanding = of human psychology. Duties will include developing an independent sponsored research program, c= ollaborating with other faculty from a wide range of backgrounds, mentoring= and teaching graduate and undergraduate students, and serving the departme= nt, university, and profession. Qualifications Applicants must have completed all the requirements for the PhD by time of = appointment, or they must expect to obtain the PhD within a year of joining= the faculty as Instructor. Preferred qualifications include a record of po= stdoctoral research; a clearly defined research agenda directed at human be= havior, with expertise in the application of computational, data-science, a= nd/or AI methods in any area of human psychology; and demonstrated commitme= nt to teaching and mentoring excellence.
