[AUDITORY] Graduate Trainee opportunity (McMaster University MAPLE Lab)

The MAPLE (Music, Acoustics, Perception & LEarning) Lab at McMaster
University has one graduate trainee opening beginning Fall 2027. The
successful applicant will join a research program examining
spectrotemporal complexity - how variation across frequency and time
shapes auditory perception. Current questions concern detection,
masking, annoyance, timbre, and related perceptual consequences of
acoustic structure, with a particular interest in properties of
real-world sounds that are often simplified away in laboratory
research. A parallel applied stream examines how these principles can
inform the design of more effective auditory warnings, including
medical-device alarms and other safety-critical auditory interfaces.

The position is based in McMaster University’s graduate program in
Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour. Applicants with interests in
auditory perception, psychoacoustics, acoustics, auditory cognition,
or related areas are particularly encouraged. Relevant experience may
include behavioural methods, quantitative analysis, programming,
acoustic analysis, or sound synthesis, although applicants are not
expected to arrive with all of these skills. Preference will be given
to MSc applicants interested in continuing into the PhD; direct PhD
entry is also possible for students who have already completed a
pertinent MSc. Full details, representative publications, and inquiry
instructions are available at: www.maplelab.net/grad
